Faithfully reproduced as a fine-art print using archival pigment inks on textured paper.A stunning certified FINE ART PRINT on heavy textured art paper — not a poster
Unlike most online offerings, our maps are produced entirely in-house, not outsourced to print-on-demand or drop-shipping services. This allows complete control over quality while offering better value. Each map begins with a high-resolution original, carefully enhanced and printed to order using archival papers and pigment inks for exceptional clarity, depth, and longevity. Every piece is personally overseen — no map leaves our workshop unless it is of a quality we would be proud to display ourselves.
Paper choice is essential to the authenticity of our maps. We use specially sourced 190gsm paper made in the UK from pure materials and traditionally pressed with natural woollen felts. This process creates a subtle, randomly textured surface that closely resembles an original antique document. Likewise the use of premium quality ink fully saturates the paper, producing remarkable clarity, depth, and historical character. Colour fastness and sharpness will remain good for in excess of 100 years!

Joseph Meyer’s finely engraved plan presents Edinburgh in 1844, with the medieval Old Town, the ordered Georgian New Town and the dramatic landscape surrounding them shown together. The plan was published for Meyer’s German Handatlas and draws upon the detailed British mapping produced for the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge.
Map Details
Edinburgh Castle stands prominently on its volcanic rock at the western end of the Old Town. From there, the dense historic streets extend eastwards towards Holyrood, contrasting sharply with the broad avenues, crescents and formal squares of the New Town.
Calton Hill, its monuments and surrounding streets are carefully drawn to the east, while Arthur’s Seat and Holyrood Park form a dramatic natural boundary beyond the city. Princes Street, George Street, Queen Street, the Meadows and Hope Park can also be identified, making the map a valuable record of Edinburgh before the major expansion of the later Victorian period.
A pictorial view of Edinburgh Castle appears beside the plan. Along the lower border is a sequence of small architectural elevations depicting prominent buildings and monuments, including St Giles’ Cathedral, the Register Office, the Assembly Rooms, Nelson’s Monument and structures on Calton Hill.
