Antwerp 1572
A unique bird’s eye view of the ancient Belgium city. Known as one of the diamond capitals of the world, the diamond industry has played a significant role throughout the province’s history. At the time this marvellous map was drawn (circa 15th-16th century) Antwerp was seen as one of the most important ports in Europe. Antwerp is situated on the River Schelde (Scheldt) as can be seen from the drawing. The busy hustle and bustle of the port is cleverly reflected in the numerous ships shown sailing up and down the river running parallel to the town. A unique glimpse of history that would make an ideal gift.
