Unlike most online offerings, our maps are produced entirely in-house, not outsourced to print-on-demand or drop-shipping services. This allows complete control over quality while offering better value. Each map begins with a high-resolution original, carefully enhanced and printed to order using archival papers and pigment inks for exceptional clarity, depth, and longevity. Every piece is personally overseen — no map leaves our workshop unless it is of a quality we would be proud to display ourselves.
Paper choice is essential to the authenticity of our maps. We use specially sourced 190gsm paper made in the UK from pure materials and traditionally pressed with natural woollen felts. This process creates a subtle, randomly textured surface that closely resembles an original antique document. Likewise the use of premium quality ink fully saturates the paper, producing remarkable clarity, depth, and historical character. Colour fastness and sharpness will remain good for in excess of 100 years!
The Old Map Company of Great Britain offers a vast and carefully curated collection of the very finest expertly reproduced vintage maps. My apologies for the very late reply. I wanted to reach out to thank you so much for rushing my order. My partner absolutely loved it. I am amazed with the service so that is a five-star from me. I wish you all the best.
The central territory on this map is the Poznań region of Greater Poland, rather than the whole of modern western Poland. Coloured borders enclose a densely marked landscape of settlements, woodland, lakes and rivers. The Latin title, Palatinatus Posnaniensis, makes that historical administrative focus explicit.
The Warta and its tributaries help organise the interior, while the town symbols and closely spaced names show the map’s attention to local geography. Small lakes and repeated tree groups occupy the spaces between settlements. Comparing those features with the coloured boundary reveals a territory defined politically but described through its waterways and inhabited places.
Several decorative elements explain how the sheet was presented. A dedication beneath a coat of arms fills the upper left, while a crowned eagle appears at the upper right. A hanging text panel on the right addresses the reader. At the lower left, the title is framed with figures and ornament above the scale.
The initials G. F. M. in the title identify the mapmaking work associated with Georg Freudenhammer. The publisher’s imprint names Joan Blaeu, and Gerard Coeck’s engraving credit distinguishes another role in producing the sheet. Treating it simply as a map drawn by Willem Blaeu loses those visible and documented contributions.
The historic territory does not correspond exactly to present-day national or provincial boundaries. Its value lies in this earlier regional picture: the pattern of woods, water and settlement can be studied alongside the formal political divisions. The reproduction retains the fine engraving and coloured outlines that make those different layers readable.
