Unusual Old Maps & Historic Curiosities

This collection brings together some of the most unusual old maps ever created, from mythical sea monsters and celestial charts to imaginative world maps, curious geographical theories and beautifully engraved works of art. Many reflect how explorers, cartographers and scholars once understood a world that was still being discovered.

Whether you're looking for an unusual gift, a striking statement piece for your home or simply enjoy the fascinating stories behind historic cartography, these maps offer something rather different from the ordinary. They have become favourites with collectors, interior designers and anyone who appreciates the unexpected.

Every print is produced individually in our Cornwall workshop using archival pigment inks on textured fine art paper. We are a small business, not a poster warehouse, and take personal care with every order. We would never send out a map that we wouldn't be proud to hang in our own home.

Together, these maps and charts reveal how earlier cartographers, navigators and scholars attempted to understand the world, the oceans, the heavens and even the human body. Some record genuine discoveries; others preserve speculation, myth and ideas that now appear wonderfully strange.

From monsters inhabiting uncharted seas to incomplete coastlines, forgotten islands and elaborate scientific diagrams, these cartographic curiosities make absorbing works of art and natural conversation pieces.
