These fastidiously and delicately decorated editions featured here date back to 1660 and appeared in a new Atlas of the Stars (Harmonia Cosmographica) by one Andreas Cellarius. Now the people of the time had the means to view the earth and the heavens in a whole new dimension, a concept not to be improved on in any great degree until the event of space exploration hundreds of years later. Based on the work of Ptolemy, this outstanding art work makes use of the known geography and astronomy of the time in a supreme effort to illustrate Man’s place in the Universe.
