Early and rare seventeenth century map by one of the most well known and respected map makers of the time. Typical of John Speed’s style the map is richly embellished with side and top panels the latter featuring eight important cities and harbours of the period.
The side panels feature charming depictions of the natives including a Virginian, Mexican, Peruvian, Brazillian a Virginian, Mexican, Peruvian and Brazillian all in various states of undress. The remaining originals of this map, particularly those from Speed’s atlas that remained uncolored are very sought after pieces commanding premiums in excess of $8,000. So our reproduction, considering its closeness to the original that would only be distinguishable by an expert, offers you a most famous art work to cherish and enjoy at a fraction of this cost.
