Americae Mappa Generalis by Homann

An extremely attractive, large-format piece which would have originally been copper engraved, published by Homann Erben, around 1750, dated 1746. This map details North and South America with its individual country borders, as well as the Pacific and Atlantic oceans . Part of Africa and Europe is also shown. A very interesting title cartouche decorates the map in the lower left half with one of the local inhabitants appearing to be holding forth a shrunken skull.
