Harry Beck’s underground map of 1933 this being a second edition facsimile albeit within the same year as the original. Beck an engineering drafts man at the signals office actually created the map in his spare time, hence London Underground management were somewhat reluctant to consider the uncommissioned work of a hobbyist. However the decision was made to publish it as a small folding leaflet that proved instantly popular with passengers.
