References to the ancient city of Athens in map form are quite rare. This particular edition comes from the map titled Ancient Greece, Southern Part (featuring) The Remains of Ancient Athens and Its Harbours, published by the SDUK (Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge). The Society produced affordable maps to promote widespread use in education. These maps were released in sections over several years as part of two volumes.
