Schenk & Gerard Valck were brother-in-laws whou acquired various copper plates from Johannes Janssonius and published this map in the late 17th century. Peter Schenk the Elder (c. 1660–1711) was a German engraver, cartographer, and art dealer who along with Valk was well known for acquiring such plates and republishing many maps much as The Old Map Company has done since 1989 and more laterly by its imitators albeit in modern digital formats. Schenk & Valk were also known for recreating globes.

Typical of the period this old map features two beautifully illustrated cartouches and this edition features relatively light colouring of boundaries in a more subtle style than the Blaue maps of the period.
